Understanding Insurance Benefits and Tree Removal

Trees are as beautiful and great fixtures on a property as they are risks to the same property. All it takes is one lightning strike or a strong gust of wind during a storm to bring that otherwise sturdy tree coming down with all of its tons of weight, damaging or crushing vehicles, structures, and, God forbid, pedestrians in the way. So, who is responsible for the damage? If you have a solid home insurance policy, then chances are that you are covered for most damages but there are circumstances in which you might not be so lucky. At Sesmas Tree Service, we have had some experience with tree removal and insurance benefits, and we would like to share some of what we have learned.

Home insurance policies differ from one company and policy to another. While we cannot give you a straight-forward answer, we can discuss the general cases. For specific answers about your coverage, we recommend referring to your insurance policy.

Usually, damage by a fallen tree to your covered structures such as your home, garage, fencing, or storage is covered by your home insurance policy. However, there are some circumstances in which a representative might deny your claim. For instance, if the tree was not properly maintained and if it fell over due to disease, damage, and other preventable situations, then you may be found liable for the damages. This is why it is so important that you stay on top of your tree maintenance by having a healthy relationship with a tree service provider like Sesmas Tree Service.

Tree Fell but There Is No Property Damage

Home insurance policies generally cover structures such as your house, fence, and garage while auto insurance policies cover your vehicle. If a tree falls on your property but does not damage any of the covered structures, then you are both lucky and unlucky. Luckily, your property was not damaged. Unfortunately, however, your insurance provider will probably not cover the tree removal costs. There may be exceptions if the fallen tree ends up blocking the driveway or the road, but you should refer to your insurance policy for specific details.

Sesmas did a terrific job for us on a project completed today involving the removal of 18 problem trees. Project was completed exactly as promised, skillfully and for a reasonable price. Mike Fowler was excellent in overseeing the work and his crew was outstanding. Highly recommend!

Kathryn Arvidson

These guys were on point. Verified the request before beginning (always good, because the trees aren't coming back!). Then made sure the trimming was done to exactly where I wanted it. On time, fast, and completely cleaned up after - was a great experience. Highly recommend!

Protect Yourself from Liability for Home Damages

As mentioned earlier, damage to your house, fence, and garage due to a diseased or dying tree falling over on them can end up being your liability. This means you will have to pay out of pocket to have the tree removed and the house repaired. Why put yourself at such a risk? Call Sesmas Tree Service today to have a certified arborist inspect your trees to ensure that they are strong and healthy. If not, we can treat your tree and make sure they are up to standards. This way, your home insurance company cannot deny your claim due to preventable circumstances.
